Class 9F Recommends: Your essential summer reading
| Some of the books on 9F's Reading List
|
| Nico and Patrick are really excited to be reading one of America's best loved classics: Huckleberry Finn
|
| And the girls are (almost) crying thier hearts out over this book!
| Towards the end of the school year, we’ve embarked on a literary journey to unknown book-lands: we were divided into four different reading circles and tried to read four different books….It was challenging because we really did not have much time and many of us will take the books with us on holidays to read and that is why we’d like to share them with you, because reading simply rocks!!

The Perks of Being a Wallflower
Review by Nadine Schmaus, 9F
Summary
The novel „Perks of Being a Wallflower“ , written by Stephen Chbosky, is about 15-year-old Charlie who has just started his first year of high school and should be looking forward to the changes ahead. However, instead of being excited like every normal, American teenager he couldn't be more scared and alone. Feeling lonely and vulnerable after the suicide of his best friend, he is trying to find his “ground” and a group of friends to belong to. He writes letters to an anonymous “friend”, whom he tells everything he does and feels.
At the beginning of the book Charlie is a genius, introvert and mentally fragile person with a passion for literature….this is also evident in the book: the entire story is written in letters in a so called epistolary style.
His life changes when he meets Sam and Patrick, also two very unconventional characters. Being accepted Charlie feels finally included. Sam, a beautiful young girl and Patrick, a gay and radical teenager, introduce Charlie to parties, high-school dangers and the meaning of real friendship. The book addresses many of the struggles all teenagers have to deal with: loneliness, fear, sexuality, compassion, growth and finally understanding. ,jyg
